The instructions to add a custom domain are already provided in the custom domains page (https://admin.kiwilaunch.com/provider/custom-domains).
There are 3rd party services that we rely on (DNS and SSL providers) and sometimes they take a bit of time to reflect changes.
Once you enter the DNS records from your domain provider's configuration screen, you should be able to enter your custom domain.
When you enter your custom domain, we create your internal routing and acquire your SSL certificate through Letsencrypt.
If you don't know how to enter DNS records, please seek the answer with your domain provider. If your domain registrar is Godaddy, you can search "How to create DNS records in Godaddy", and you should arrive at publicly available guides or videos. If you don't, then you can reach out to your domain registrar and seek assistance.
Here are some frequently faced issues due to dependency on public services:
Why do I see "DNS settings are not configured properly..." error, although I did them properly?
The error screenshot and possible explanations are below:
Nameserver Settings Override:
Explanation: If the domain's nameservers are configured to override the CNAME record, the CNAME entry might not take effect. Double-check the nameserver settings and ensure they are configured to allow CNAME records.
If you already have a website, your developer might have configured it to manage your DNS records from their side through nameserver settings.
Some registrars show a mark like "You are not using these settings" when entering new records because there are already nameservers being used.Solution: Seek nameserver settings, and check if they are relevant. Be careful as the changes you make here might break your existing website, mail accounts etc... Reach out to your developer for assistance.
Propagation Delay:
Explanation: DNS changes take time to propagate across the Internet. It may take several hours or even up to 48 hours for DNS changes to be fully effective. If the CNAME record was recently updated, wait for propagation to complete before expecting the changes to take effect.
Solution: Wait for few minutes/hours, and try entering your custom domain on the page again.
Incorrect CNAME Configuration:
Solution: Double-check the syntax and content of the CNAME record. Ensure that it points to the correct domain or subdomain. A typo or incorrect configuration can prevent the record from taking effect.
Proxy settings enabled:
Explanation: In some providers, they add a proxy layer which prevents us from confirming the DNS record. Cloudflare is one example. You should disable "Proxied" setting.
The custom domain was saved successfully, however, the booking/checkout page says it is insecure. Why?
When you save, we trigger the creation of the SSL. Depending on the SSL provider's response time this may take up to 2-3 minutes.
Please try again in a few minutes.
Note: Your browser might cache the unsecured status, and even if the SSL is issued, it may not show properly on your browser for a few more minutes. Try to another browser if you want to check the final status.
If after few minutes, it is still not fixed, you can try to remove the custom domain and re-enter/re-save it (If the SSL issuer gives an error, it may take some time for you to receive the notice from us due to the asynchronous nature of the process).
I don't want it to work with book.mydomain.com and checkout.mydomain.com, can I change them?
The way your domain is set up is fixed, but you can customize subdomains. Instead of making a CNAME record directly for "book," create one for "book.subdomain" instead. Then, on the Custom Records page, enter "subdomain.mydomain.com." This way, your book page will be accessible at "book.subdomain.mydomain.com."
